Counseling Experience:
After graduating from CU Boulder, Daelena lived in Denver where she spent four years working
in Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Admissions and Student Support at 4 year and 2 year
colleges.
Counseling Philosophy:
“I know how difficult it can be to make plans for the future while also still living in the present.
The best part of working with students at the counseling level is getting to know them and
making sure they always feel prepared and inspired to make the college application process clear
and rewarding.”
Teaching Experience:
Daelena has worked with undergraduate students in online, community college, private and
public university settings. Through Daelena’s masters program at DU, she worked as a teaching
assistant and as a graduate teaching instructor. Daelena has also worked as a curriculum
consultant and guest lecturer at a high school/college preparatory program in Boulder, Colorado.
Educational Philosophy:
“I believe that education is one of the most powerful tools in the world; it is an avenue for
students to see themselves and to see other in ways unfathomed through any other institution. My
role as an instructor is to meet students where they are and help them find their most authentic
voice. It is important that students feel heard and stay encouraged to push past the tough
moments to achieve their academic goals.”
Interesting Fact:
Daelena loves singing and performing and was able to sing and tour with a R&B, Soul and Folk
band for a year after her earning her undergraduate degree at CU.
