University of Texas at Austin (B.S.A. in Biology)
The University of Washington (M.S. in Human Centered Design & Engineering - Class of 2027)


Teaching Experience:

Throughout high school and college, Iris has had several years of experience teaching fellow students and others in her community. She was a volunteer tutor for math and science in high school before becoming a peer biology and chemistry tutor at UT Austin's Sanger Learning Center in college. Through these experiences, Iris has developed lesson plans tailored to the needs of her students and prepped students for exams with effective study strategies. Outside of tutoring, Iris has also mentored prospective college students by providing essay support and guiding them through the admissions process.  


Educational Philosophy:

"I believe that all students have the capability to learn, succeed, and excel given the proper guidance and support. Therefore it is the role of the teacher to meet these students halfway by adapting to the unique needs and learning abilities of each student. My goal is to accommodate to the students' various learning styles while also ensuring they are properly supported with the necessary foundational knowledge in an engaging environment."

Counseling Experience:

As an exceptionally curious college student, Iris explored several different fields and career paths to gain experience in business, communication, healthcare, research, and data science. Now, she hopes to share these experiences and insight with students aspiring to further their education and careers. Throughout college, Iris has mentored students through the college application process and also assisted her peers in applying for graduate and professional school by reviewing personal statements and resumes, making sure they highlighted their strengths. In the process, Iris helps students develop discipline, communication, creativity, organization, and initiative and ensures they are properly equipped with the skills and resources to guarantee their success..  


Counseling Philosophy:

"For me, guiding and mentoring students is all about understanding each student’s unique stories and empowering them to draw upon their experiences to craft a journey that is completely their own. My goal is to help students build confidence in their abilities, skills, and experiences to learn more about themselves and take ownership of their futures. In this way, I strive to enable students to showcase their strengths and individuality through a well-rounded, personalized approach to set students up for success."


Interesting Fact:

Iris loves watching movies and TV shows, and she is no stranger to going to movie theaters alone. However, she is incapable of watching a movie or show adaptation without first reading the source material.
