Malaika Shah
Math/Science Instructor

Education:
University of Texas at Austin (B.S. in Mathematics)
Teaching Experience:
Malaika has spent three years as a member of RISE, a community service organization at UT Austin dedicated to mentoring under-served local high school students. Through RISE, she has taught financial literacy, college readiness, and entrepreneurship, while also contributing to the organization’s curriculum development. Additionally, she served as a teaching assistant in high school calculus, where she provided academic support to students.
Educational Philosophy:
“As a mathematics student and tutor, I view mathematics as a pyramid of concepts, where each new idea builds upon a strong foundation. I prioritize helping students understand this logical progression and encourage them to ask how new material connects to prior knowledge. I have observed how once students recognize these connections, they gain the confidence to engage with more advanced applications.”
Interesting Fact:
Malaika learned to ride a unicycle in elementary school. In 5th grade, she participated in the Junior Rose Parade in her home state, where she rode a giraffe unicycle (5ft tall)!
