Saint Louis University (English and Women’s & Gender Studies, B.A.)

Counseling Experience:

Michelle has been a writing consultant both for high school seniors writing college application essays and college students working on graduate school, fellowship, and transfer applications. She is also an English teacher, and she has guided many students through the essay writing process.

Counseling Philosophy: 

Although applying to college can be a very demanding process, having structure and guidance along the way can help students manage their time and stress. Michelle is excited to provide this form of support to students during this exciting and challenging time. She loves to work with individual students to identify their personal application narrative and express that narrative through their resumés and essays.

Teaching Experience:

Michelle has worked for three years as a teacher in the University of Texas Departments of English and Rhetoric & Writing. During this time, she has taught American Literature, composition and writing, critical reading, rhetorical analysis, and argumentation skills to college students of all levels. Before her time at UT, Michelle worked as a teaching assistant for students transitioning to college as well as a high school writing center consultant. 

Educational Philosophy: 

“With every assignment and lesson plan I design, I am always thinking about ways to provide students with skills they can transfer to their future education and careers. I believe that classroom learning should not exist in a vacuum and should be fun, so I strive to relate learning to students’ lives, interests, and future goals.” 

Interesting Fact:

Michelle is a big sports fan and loves the St. Louis Cardinals.
