Education:

University of Texas at Austin (B.S. in Chemical Engineering)

Teaching Experience:

Sophie has tutored for the SAT for two years in her hometown of Katy, Texas before coming to Berkeley² Academy. During college, she was a teaching assistant for an introductory STEM Education class that focused on how to teach STEM to K-8th graders.

Educational Philosophy:

"My goal with tutoring is to not just teach students the content but to build up their confidence. I believe that half of the battle of learning something new is overcoming the mental barrier that we are not ‘capable enough’ to understand challenging content. Once students begin to believe in their ability to learn, they become more willing to ask questions, make mistakes, and persevere through difficult problems. My goal is to create a supportive environment where students feel comfortable thinking out loud, exploring different approaches, and celebrating progress. Ultimately, I hope each student leaves not only with a stronger understanding of the material but also with greater confidence in their ability to tackle future challenges independently."

Interesting Fact:

In her free time, Sophie enjoys doing a variety of crafts like sewing, knitting, and quilting. She also collects Pokemon Cards and plays Pokemon games on her Nintendo Switch!
